No matter the complaints and prayers of thousands of fans, or the emotive letter from the Guardians of the Galaxy cast ... come on, not even the threats of Dave Bautista! James Gunn will not return as director to the MCU.
Variety reported that, following a "courtesy" meeting between Gunn and Alan Horn, the decision not to require the filmmaker to head the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains. The same report assures that, although it could not attend the meeting, the head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige totally supports the decision of the manager of Disney (although it is said that he was insisting that he be brought back).
Well, perhaps the threat of Bautista about withdrawing from the sequel if the script was not used did work, because as we know -and there were no changes- the story written by James Gunn will be used, in the apparent conclusion of this trilogy. It is expected that, once Feige returns, the search for the substitute director will continue, which could definitely change the release date of part three.
The production of GotG3 was going to start in early 2019, but that currency is in the air. At least the cast and the script are maintained, but will there be a director capable of following this legacy, especially after the controversy that surrounds it?
And more importantly, will Warner Bros. be ready to recruit Gunn (as has been rumored) for his DCEU?
