Despite the fact that the Chucky franchise has managed to survive the passage of time, MGM is already preparing the remake of the original film with a totally different team to that dedicated to keeping the franchise alive in Universal Pictures. Although we knew that this was imminent since MGM announced such plans a few weeks ago, no one imagined that Chucky's remake was so advanced as to start production these days. All the above, thanks to a photo that the director of the remake, Lars Klevberg (Polaroid), uploaded to his personal Instagram account and that a day later he eliminated without further explanation. The image in question is shown below:
Chucky starts filming. The legend of this photograph read "Week 1. Let's play" and was accompanied by the #legacy and #respect hashtags. However, not all see this effort as a sign of respect for the original material and actress Christine Elise, who participated in the sequel Chucky: The Diabolical Doll 2 (1990) and the recent Cult of Chucky (2017) as Kyle, did not take long in giving your opinion about it. Through the Horror Geek Life site, she commented on the following:
"I think it's an incredibly fucked up movement. It is absolutely ill-intentioned. I do not know why they would do that to a healthy franchise. Putting a franchise like that is in very bad taste. And nobody in the original franchise is involved: they're not going to have Brad Dourif, they're not going to work with Don and neither are they with any of us. I think the doll is going to have artificial intelligence and suddenly it's going to go crazy, so it's not even going to have the serial killer element that owns it. Actually it's not going to be a Chucky film. I do not know why they just take the title, they steal it and they confuse everything. "
Elise reiterated that the creator of Chucky, Don Mancini, is preparing a TV series, as well as various sequels to Cult of Chucky, so the idea of a remake was simply "insensitive" to the work that Mancini had built all his life . At the moment, MGM has not confirmed the start of the production of the remake and although the director deleted that image from his Instagram, we will surely have official news about the project very soon.
