STAR WARS: 10 ALTERNATIVES TO EWAN MCGREGOR FOR THE SPIN-OFF OF OBI-WAN

Let's play to be casting directors. We recently echoed statements by Ewan McGregor in which he said "there are no plans to do a spin-off of Obi-Wan Kenobi with him", despite the fact that the actor who gave life to the Star Wars Jedi Master in The Phantom Menace, The Attack of the Clones and The Revenge of the Sith has shown on several occasions their interest in retaking the role in that hypothetical spin-off.

Therefore, although we would also like Ewan to come back, we will play casting directors and pre-select 10 actors who could be a good alternative Obi-Wan for his dedicated film, always bearing in mind that this it would develop between Episodes III and IV.

Kenneth Branagh

Kenneth Branagh in Dunkirk
Few well-known actors know more like Ewan McGregor. The Northern Ireland Kenneth Branagh could pass for a relative of the actor of the previous Obi-Wan. It is approximately 10 years older than McGregor, so it could be useful if the spin-off is to be made closer to the version we last saw in Revenge of the Sith. In addition to his physical resemblance, Branagh is a more than contrasted and versatile actor with ability to play roles of all kinds, in a range from Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter saga to the detective Hercules Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express.

Iain Glenn

Iain Glen in Game of Thrones
Our beloved Ser Jorah Mormont of Game of Thrones would be a great addition to the Star Wars Universe. In a role of similar honorability that of the protector of the Khaleesi -although with less background of reprehensible morale-, Iain Glen gathers conditions and training with the sword as to show a version of Obi-Wan that still had some fight with lightsabers in his exile between Episodes III and IV. In addition, the fact that he physically combines the hair tone of Ewan McGregor with the gray hair on the head and the beard that bring him closer to Sir Alec Guinness makes it physically believable as well. It would be one of the actors that appeared in both Game of Thrones and Star Wars.

Kevin McKidd

Kevin McKidd in Gray's Anatomy
We are going with a lesser-known alternative, although that is no less valid (it's Tommy, from Trainspotting!). In addition, we know that Disney likes to give opportunities to lesser-known actors, as happened with Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo. In this case, McKidd's age is similar to McGregor's. In fact, it is 2 years smaller, although we have the advantage that the last time we saw Ewan as Obi-Wan was in 2005, so natural aging also helps. As a plus, he knows the franchise well, since he has doubled the character of Fenn Rau in Star Wars Rebels.

Jude Law

Jude Law on Fantastic Animals: The Crimes of Grindewald
We can not deny that, at such an age, Jude Law gives himself a certain air to Ewan McGregor, which would help to find a surrogate Obi-Wan with the least traumatic transition possible. He is no stranger to the Disney ecosystem, as he will appear in Capitana Marvel, and with roles as contradictory as that of the young Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and that of Pope Pío XIII in The Young Pope, we are more than sure of his ability to adapt to different roles .

Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke in The Magnificent Seven
Ethan Hawke is an old acquaintance who already has to star in some great blockbuster. For a long time it was said that he was the favorite to play Doctor Strange, a role that finally went to Bennedict Cumberbatch. However, he still has possibilities within the great Disney catalog with a role in Star Wars. He is the same age as McGregor, although he would again play in favor of the one we saw was at least 14 years younger.

Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges at Kingsman: The Golden Circle
It seems incredible to us that an actor like Jeff Bridges has not yet appeared in the Star Wars franchise in any role whatsoever. Here the choice is thought if the Obi-Wan that we will see is quite close in age to that of Alec Guinness in A New Hope. Jeff Bridges is more than 30 years older than McGregor, but he is so well preserved that you can play with a wide range of age in that range.

Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman in The Dark Knight: The Legend Reborn
Gary Oldman is a sure bet for any kind of role you ask, from roles in which the physical transformation is such that he is not recognized (Bram Stoker's Dracula or as Churchill in The Darkest Moment) to more formal ones. He has experience with successful franchises thanks to his portrayal of Commissioner Gordon in Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy and his graying appearance allows him to adapt to a wide range of age for Obi-Wan.

David Thewlis

David Thewlis in Wonder Woman
Having featured roles in both the Harry Potter (Remus Lupine) and the Wonder Woman (Ares) series should be enough credentials to apply for a Star Wars participation. David Thewlis is about 10 years older than McGregor and knows exactly what it is to be part of a big film franchise. In addition, it is not only his curriculum, but it is not unreasonable to find a large number of similarities between Remus Lupine and Obi-Wan in the figure as a mentor.

Joel Edgerton

Joel Edgerton in Red Sparrow
All a roadrunner with a level of action always of remarkable up and a presence in camera sweeping thanks to his look, conditions he shares with Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness as to represent a version of Obi-Wan halfway.

Viggo Mortensen

Viggo Mortensen on Captain Fantastic
Who would not want to see the actor who played the legendary Aragorn in the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings back on the front page of a great Hollywood franchise? We do Viggo Mortensen, although it may not seem like it, is already in his sixties, a perfect age for an Obi-Wan closer to Guinness than McGregor.

What would be your choice in case Ewan McGregor had to give the baton to another actor? Which of these 10 do you like the most? If you have any other alternative, you can send it to us through the comment system available below.
